Ten ways to actually use the park rather than just walk through it — from 26 ball diamonds and two open basketball courts to birding in the Ramble, rowing on the Lake and skiing the Great Lawn after a storm. Almost all of it is free.
Where each one happens, when it's in season, and whether you need a permit. Casual play is free almost everywhere — permits only apply to reserved fields, leagues and organised events, and take 21–30 days to approve.
