Before You Book

Choosing the right tour

Still deciding? These are the questions our team answers most often.

Which should I pick?

Pick a guided tour if it's your first visit and you want the history, the film locations and the shortcuts explained as you go. Pick a rental if you'd rather set your own pace, stop where you like and take as long as you want. Every rental comes with a route map marking the landmarks, so you won't get lost either way.

Walking tours cover 2.1 miles of the southern half in two hours. Carriage rides cover about 2.2 miles in 45 minutes. Bike tours, e-scooters and running tours all cover the full 6.1-mile loop, which takes in the north end as well the Reservoir, the Pool and Harlem Meer.

Carriage rides, pedicabs, walking tours, bike tours and bike rentals all take children child seats, trailers and tag-alongs are available with any bike booking, and under-5s walk free on the walking tour. E-scooters are the exception: riders must be 16 or older with photo ID.

Tours run rain or shine only lightning or ice stops a walking tour, and carriages carry blankets through the winter. If the forecast turns, you can cancel or reschedule free up to 24 hours before your start time.

Most tours meet at Merchants' Gate, Columbus Circle, or at 203 W. 58th Street, a three-minute walk away. Carriage rides begin at Grand Army Plaza on 59th & Fifth Avenue. Your confirmation email carries the exact meeting point, your guide's name and a phone number.

No — the price you see is the tour itself. Gratuity for drivers and guides is customary in New York at 15–20%, but it's entirely up to you.
